Brija Cosmetics!

All you naturalistas out there are probably already familiar with the wonder that is Brija cosmetics. Started by Brianna (she was a natural beauty blogger before it was cool) it has become one of the go-to brands for affordable toxic-free makeup. Brija’s line focuses on colour products, with everything from loose pigment eyeshadows to blushes, highlighters, bronzer and amazing lip products. There is also an adhesive eye wax which I am yet to try, eye balm and turmeric face primer (skincare cum cosmetics).

I like to think of myself as a conscious consumer and I love to favour small businesses, indie companies and generally people that I know are out there fighting the good fight, promoting the same ideals that I strive for. I really appreciate companies that understand the increasingly urgent need to live with compassion and awareness. Brija always stands out to me as one of those brands which combines quality products, fun and creativity (from the label art to the inspiration for the collections) with safe and mindfully chosen ingredients. Brianna is one of the biggest purists I know when it comes to her ingredients, and while I always advocate reading labels and making your own informed decisions, I feel safe in her hands.

I recently used her newly released limited edition glitters as an excuse to try out some things from her line that I have been eyeing for a while. The last time I made a purchase was in maybe 2014 or 2013!! I have definitely been missing using her products, and the brand has grown so much since then, I was excited to try out everything!

Onto the products. I have been playing with these for a week now, long enough to get a feel for first impressions at least! I will of course be updating as I go along, follow me on Instagram @teenytemptress for daily updates and mini reviews! I often post looks on there when I’ve been playing with new products.

This time round, I picked up

Hula Hoop bronzer

You Know Who Highlight – Harry Potter collection

Make It Count lipstick – Titanic collection

Am I Crying Or Laughing eyeshadow + Samples as blogger pack – Gilmore Girls collection

Bronzite and Labradorite glitters – Gemstone collection

{{The samples I got were Endure eyeshadow, Punctuality eyeshadow, Phoenix Tears eyeshadow and ESPN highlight. All are beautiful, all are photographed below}}

Hula Hoop is formulated as a dupe for Benefit’s Hoola bronzer, which I have owned and loved in the past. I use this in pretty much the same way that I used to use Hoola: all over bronze, warming up a contour, blending out my crease colours or even as an all-over-lid colour. This is a super versatile product and definitely a new staple in my makeup routine!

You Know Who… is a pretty intense highlight in a white base. This is so aptly chosen for a colour to represent Voldemort’s ghostly pallour. I’m still playing with this, would love to hear if anyone else has this how they make it work? My skin is dry and does not always agree with powder products. I would love to have this in a cream base to get a dewy texture and feel as well as the look of it. Perhaps I am not pale enough to pass it off, but I feel that it gets powdery the more I build it up so I spray it down with rose water after. For me right now, I like it best as an inner corner highlight.

Make It Count lipstick is so lovely and has plenty of slip to it, you can feel the nourishing castor and olive oils moisturising your lips. It feels like wearing a lipbalm, which I like. Since I don’t tend to wear lipsticks, this is balm-colour hybrid that is right up my alley. It builds beautifully and has no shimmer at all which is a MUST for me. This is a versatile lippie to take you from every day to a night on the town. Love. Also doubles as a pretty cream blush.

Am I Crying or Laughing is a pretty bright salmon-pink colour. Great for in the crease, though obviously needs to be paired with something neutral to stop you having rabbit eye syndrome (as with all red or pink shadows). However, brings out the green in my eyes amazingly! I have used this as a blush and it works well. It’s like a pop-ier version of Tulip by Boho Chic Cosmetics.

The Gemstone Glitters I just had to try. I picked up the bronzite and labradorite. I have never used glitters before, pretty sure I’ll need to watch some tutorials and have a play before I get used to these. I have used some lip balm to try to get the bronzite to stick and build up, which didn’t really work… Though it was better than nothing! I don’t own any cream eyeshadows or primers, so that may be the key to unlocking their potential.

Cozy was a gift with purchase, and may be my favourite thing that came with my order. It’s not part of any collection, as far as I know, but I LOVE THIS SHADE! It is the perfect gold, not too warm or too cold, blends beautifully and darkens magically in the crease.. Foiled all over the lid is how I’m wearing it here in the pic above, with Hula Hoop in the crease and Endure smudged on the upper lashline, no mascara.
